A new Superman DVD is slated for release this year entitled Superman VS The Elite.
Don't leave. Yeah, I realize that Big Blue's DTVs haven't been that great thus far, but this one, based on a comic book story, actually sounds promising:
"This tale features The Elite, a team of super-powered antiheroes fronted by Manchester Black, who gained worldwide popularity for viciously killing their foes. Despite the acclaim and approval that the Elite are enjoying, Superman knows that they are in the wrong, continually defying the Elite even after they save a city. As tensions between them finally culminate in a mass showdown- taking place on Jupiter's moons at Superman's request-, Superman, taking advantage of the fight being taped, makes it appear as though he has 'killed' the Elite members- really using his speed to get them out of harm's way at the last minute so that nobody sees it- to show the public that violence is never a positive thing, stating that he will never stop fighting his way to show the world what it could be."
George Newbern (Justice League/Unlimited) will be reprising his role as Superman for the upcoming film.

Sounds like a pale rehash of Kingdom Come, a mini-series from back in '96, by Mark Waid and Alex Ross. Ross also did the painting (not pencilling) for the series. The only differences this DVD seems to have (just from using your summary and not actually looking the story up) are that it takes place in present day and not 20 years in the future and The Elite may be better received (in story continuity) than the antagonist in Kingdom Come, Magog- also an "antihero hero" who ends up killing the bad guys, specifically two in particular that I won't reveal b/c they're integral to the plot. Oh yeah, unless you glossed over it, this Supes story doesn't seem to have Batman in it in any significant way. Of course, if yoru description is basically all there is to the storyline, then Kingdome come is a much broader and more in depth story as well, as that part of it is more of a vehicle for the larger plotline of the series.
If you're not familiar with it, I highly recommend going out and picking up the trade. Even if the story isn't your cup of tea, the art is just simply beautiful. I don't think it's actually an Elseworlds title, but it definitely has that feel to it.

Nah, none of the articles I've found regarding this movie mention Batman, so I guess he's sitting this one out. Also, the story is based on the comics story "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way?" from 2001.
More news: Pauley Perette (NCIS) will be voicing Lois Lane. Read more about it here.
Kind of a massive chin on ol' Supey there, I must say.

Well, that was informative. Of course, to be taken seriously, the Elite have to have the capacity to defeat Superman, or to force him to breach his principles. I admire how Superman has this ironclad dedication to preserving life and liberty. Compare with Viet Nam-era General Westmoreland, who shrugged off the obliteration by US forces of a South Vietnamese village, saying, "This is war; there are bound to be collateral casualties." So, who's the "good guy" in the war, again?

^^With all due respect, matuertom, could you please stop bumping threads with "nice, thanks for u sharing it!"? It's getting old.
I understand if you wish keep a conversation going and/or want to contribute, but just posting the same generic comment over and over again just comes off as spam and isn't contributing to the conversation in any way. If you don't have anything original or worthwhile to say, then just let the thread ride off into the sunset.
