How about an episode of Caillou's Train Trip. It's in the middle of the page.

Re: Little more info [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

I did a bit of searching and I wound up coming full circle right back here to BCDB. A poster here cited an episode of Il était une fois... L'homme (a.k.a. Once Upon a time...Man) on another board that had to do with cartoons involving trains.

Shany:

"It's not a movie, but in an episode of "once upon a time: man" they talk about the invention of the steam train. In the episode there's a race between different types of train engines to determine which one will they use for trains. I'm pretty sure some of the engines there have various problems and crash... "

Episode 23
Le printemps des peuples
The awakening of the people

Summary:
1829 the steamer competes with the sail. The Stephenson locomotive wins the Rainhill trials. The railroad is built, 1848 will see the begining of the awakening of the people.

The same characters reappear throughout history as cavemen, Romans, Egyptians, Rennisence, Industrial Revolution etc. Do any of these characters look familiar?
Once Upon a time Series

Re: A little boy and Steam Engine [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

I have similar haunting memories of such a film. i think it was Japanese in origin. i've often wondered what this film was. i'm sure it was a film, and it was probably shown early to mid-eighties during a holiday.

ps. this was in the UK

pps. in regards to the "once upon a time" series, is this available on DVD in English language? i know that it's available from Amazon France, but is there a English language option on the DVD?

thanks!

I believe that the version available from Amazon France is in both French and English -- in other words, you can choose the language of the soundtrack of each DVD.

Caution, however: the DVD set is Zone 2, a format which is incompatible with Zone 1 DVD players (the kind used in North America). "Universal" DVD players (which can play discs from all zones) can be bought in cities with large immigrant populations.

I think the cartoon you were thinking of was called "the Secret Railroad" or "Les Voyages De Tortillard". It was produced in Canada back in the 70s.

Once Upon a Time Man was also a good cartoon :-) I wish I saw more of it when I was a kid.
