In the words of Herbert the Dragon from my Mercer Mayer Golden Book Video... "Ahhh, sweet destiny!"
BTW, what show won? I hope it was the Simpsons! Maybe the movie helped boost the show's popularity!
I'm not really a fan of Spongebob, either. I hope the show gets canceled soon, as some of my friends said the show's been going downhill after 2002. After all, "Rugrats" ran from 1991 to 2004, and I think it went downhill starting in 1998 (one word: DIL!) I do predict Spongebob would probably end around 2010. Maybe they'd do a big series finale, like an hour-long episode of some sort.
The only thing I kinda like about Spongebob is the music in it, since 75% of the music in that show isn't original! It's mostly taken from the KPM/Associated Production Music library, with some of the Ren & Stimpy cues, but also a lot of Hawaiian and nautical-themed tracks from that music library, and some 60s pop-style tunes and NFL sports library themes. The fanfare they used in that certain shot on my video was also used on at least two Spongebob episodes, according to a friend of mine.
Besides, I remember that from 1992 to 1996, "Doug" always won the Blimp Award for Favorite Cartoon. THAT was a good show. "Rugrats" then always won it from 1996 to 2000, and that show was good until 1998.
Before you begin saying that a Nickelodeon show always wins the awards, consider this: If that was the case, then why not have "The Fairly Oddparents" or "Jimmy Neutron" win? (In those shows, I liked the pre-2004 episodes of FOP, and I also liked the Jimmy Neutron movie better than the TV series)

See, personally, I'd rather have both Spongebob and The Simpsons than a lot of the later HB stuff. Most of that stuff doesn't even get to the level of derivative- it's just plain bad.

I've always been a huge sponge bob fan. But after the Sponge Bob movie came out (2004) the episodes became obviously worse. The episodes seem to rush leaving no parts for funny things and all of the stupid songs and specials make it much worse.
The only reason I believe Nick is hanging on to sponge bob all this time is because theres nothing to replace it. I believe that the new shod "The Mighty B" will be able to replace sponge bob and it will win KCA 2009.
And sponge bob will most likely be canceled late 09' to early 10'

I also think the movie was the turning point of SpongeBob. The same could be said of The Powerpuff Girls. once their movie came out, the show started using a new art style and the episodes were really bad. I use to laugh at SpongeBob haters because I knew they were wrong but some of the new episodes actually provide SpongeBob haters with ammunition and I can't really defend it anymore. My sister finally saw the light and she now likes SpongeBob. She use to bash it all of the time. Unfortunately she picked a bad time to start liking him since they mix new and old episodes together.
