the Art Davis reel
Came across this when stumbling onto a new site (for me, anyway)......one which CELEBRATES Art Davis's work as an animator working under directors Freleng, Tashlin & McKimson: http://www.dailymotion.com/...avis-reel_shortfilms I'm extremely glad to have found this, and may the rest of you find it a revelation too! Davis is a great director, too, of course; but THIS proves once and for all that, in the echelon of Warner animators, Davis ranks right up there with the likes of Rod Scribner, Ken Harris, and Bob McKimson!

Yeah, I've seen the Johnny Gentilella (be careful how you spell that last name! ) on on DailyMotion. Thad has also done some great animator breakdowns for a couple of 1940's Woody Woodpecker shorts (Smoked Hams and Beach Buddies) and at least one Famous Studios Popeye cartoon (Popeye, the Ace of Space?). It's fascinating to see these breakdowns as it gives one a better idea of each animator's individual style.

You know the toon Bowery Bugs? Which retells the story of Steve Brody's leap off the Brooklyn Bridge? ("Enter, oh, seeker of knowledge… whap!! That's YOU, Fathead!") Art Davis directed that, and a host of others. http://www.bcdb.com/...801-Bowery_Bugs.html

Art Davis was a lesser known director of a few Looney Tunes shorts, he was also a great animator. I'm sure that there are a few cartoons that he directed that are familiar to you but never realized that he was behind them, such as "Porky Chops" in which lumberjack Porky encounters a Brooklyn-accented squirrel or the hillarious "Dough Ray Meow"("Help! Heathcliff!")

I forgot about DailyMotion, thanks for mentioning that. On there I found the full cartoons of The Foxy Duckling, Odor Of The Day, Holiday For Drumsticks, and Quackodile Tears. There are short clips from Mexican Joyride, Doggone Cats, and What Makes Daffy Duck.
