Disney Treasures Not So Limited
Most fans of cartoons in general would agree that the Disney Treasures DVD series has been done right: decent prints, good background material included, and a thorough inclusion of all cartoons. The only downside has been that because of their "limited" production- 125,000 copies for the first series, 150,000 for the second- many people were unable to purchase the sets. Until now. It seems that a new box set that includes all the disks from the first two waves of the DTS are now showing up on store shelves in Costcos throughout the US. These are the same disks from the original releases, but without the "collectible" numbered tins the sets were released in. The 8-disk sets are selling for $124.49. So what is really going on is unclear. Is Disney pressing more than the original "limited" series? Or is Costco repackaging and dumping sets that had damaged tins? Right now, no one knows (or is telling). But two things are for sure: some collectors who missed out the first time are going to be pretty happy, and a lot of the vultures from e-Bay who bought these sets bulk to later gouge people on the auction site are going to be licking their wounds.
