    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    It took a while, but we are finally here! The Big Cartoon DataBase hit the milestone of 150,000 entries earlier today with the addition of the cartoon The Polish Language. This film was added to BCDB on May 9th, 2014 at 4:23 PM.

    Funnyman Will Ferrell and partner Adam McKay are working on bringing back everyone’s favorite stone-age family. The duo’s production company Gary Sanchez Productions is in development on a new Flintstones animated feature.

    Disney To Feast In France

    The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

Disney Classic Films/Cartoons on...Turner Classic Movies?!

    It's like Sonic the Hedgehog being on Nintendo or Cats and Dogs getting together!

    But it is true...I didn't realize it until now, but I heard that last November, TCM is playing Disney Classics once a month.

    I wish I had cable, but if TCM was available on Roku...I'd get it....

    This isn't that strange, really. The Walt Disney Company is a producer of animated fare, both animated features and short film cartoons. Disney also has distributorship, so they can put their "products" into movie theaters and onto television screens. However, if a rival broadcaster is willing to pony up the loot for a "licensing fee," Disney is perfectly willing to let them broadcast Disney productions. The broadcaster gets family oriented content, and Disney gets moolah. The same mechanism exists for other producers as well, such as Warner Brothers and Sony-Columbia-Tristar. Producers are happy to let their productions get screen time, as long as they collect their fee; and broadcasters need attractive content to maintain their audience headcount.

    Besides the current Disney Channel and Disney XD channel target a young audience demographic (ages 5 to 17) in their programming and anything produced before the 2000's will not fit. Disney Channel had the "Vault Disney" overnight programming block with vintage cartoons and Disney theatrical and television productions made up to the 1970s sometime in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Since Disney execs didn't think much of expanding "Vault Disney" into a channel of its own to attract an older audience, the programming of such languished in the "Vaults" for a long while.
