    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

    The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    I recall watching a cartoon of a boy who has a great imagination and fights his furnace (or maybe a burning barrel) and it becomes a dragon and he becomes a knight. I think it was on Captain Kangaroo.

    That's Dante Dreamer. Dante was a little boy whose mom told him to put the trash in the incinerator. Instead, he imagined the incinerator as a dragon, and fought it. It was produced by Famous Studios in the late 1950's.

    Another I liked back in the day was an old Indian telling young Indian boys his hunting adventures. There is a flashback to him hunting a bear as a boy. I remember he'd sing something like, "Didiya dit da de da" as he hunted. He killed a bear but the young Indians didn't believe him. Then a bear suddenly appeared and scare the boys and they ran away. It was the old Indian with a bear rug on his back and he was laughing.

    That was "Slip Us Some Redskin," another Famous Studio cartoon. Due to both the title and the Native Americans being politically incorrect, it's no longer shown on TV.

    That's what I figured. I loved it as a kid and must have watched it 20 times on various kids shows growing up.
