    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Precisely right, GW. This is Sally, the Mad Scientist's creation / housekeeper, who tries to rescue Santa Claus from the clutches of Oogie Boogie but gets caught. Despite the Hallowe'en-y-ness of it, a critical part of the story nonetheless transpires mostly on Christmas Eve, which is why it's called The Nightmare Before Christmas. Splendid response, GW; you have control of the Board. :)

Well, if we're going to play with strange Christmas cartoons, I've got a doozie for you.
    1. I get sucked into a strange book where everything that gets tossed ends up.
    2. My doll runs away from me after coming to life.
    3. I decide to spread some Christmas cheer to this strange world.

I must watch it! I remembered reading about it online, but couldn't remember the title - it took me ages on Google to track it down!

OK - one obscure Christmas character coming up...

    1) I spend some of my time in a children's hospital, and some in a counting house. I have a partner, but I am the prime mover.
    2) I am a cute(ish) addition to a well-known story.
    3) The central character has no time for human sentiment - but I make him smile.

    More clues...

    4) I have an angelic name.
    5) The main character is my friend; he shares his gruel with me.
    6) I have to help his ex-girlfriend persuade him to recall the doctor from debtor's prison and save the hospital. Maybe something will happen to change his callous and bitter mindset....

Last set of clues coming up!

    7) We must get the main character to read a letter, in a subplot that is definitely not in the original story.
    8) Did I mention that this is a really famous Christmas story? And a ghost story? And that I don't usually feature in it?
    9) All ends well, of course, and my partner and I get to ride on the central character's shoulder!

Near as I can figure, it's from a version of "A Christmas Carol," but I can't place it.

No, this one isn't going to slip through the cracks--I think I finally got it. Piecing together what little I could, I somehow realized that this extra character must be named Gabriel--there is a 2001 Christmas Carol: The Movie which has a mouse named Gabriel in it--I think this is the character.

Well sleuthed, Glowworm - you've nailed it!

Of all the versions of A Christmas Carol this is probably the least necessary! The addition of two mice and a subplot where Scrooge's ex-girlfriend Belle becomes a nurse in a children's hospital does little to enliven a rather stiff and wordy retelling of the story, despite a prestigious voice cast. The director, veteran animator Jimmy Murakami, did his best (he also animated much of the mice) but most of the animators were young and rather inexperienced.

I actually did clean-up on a couple of scenes of Belle and the doctor. (By the time I got to hear about it the production was almost over!)

Merry Christmas, everyone! and over to you, Glow,..

I actually think I've seen DVDs of this movie floating around in stores.
Not bad guessing for a Jewish girl. ;)
Anyhow, for the holidays, here's something completely different...
    1. In an online animation, a young boy imagines me while waiting for his mother to get home for Hanukkah.
    2. I set off on an epic adventure, to rescue a jelly doughnut from an evil pig king.
    3. I am a Jewish superhero--so my powers are very Jewish.

    4. The bits with the boy are live action.
    5. There's a second animation where I must save the afikomen ( half of the middle matzoh) from the Pharaoh during Passover.
    6. I have the looks of a Hasidic Jew, but the moves of a Samurai.

I think it's time to reveal this one, as I really can't put up any more clues.
This is Samurai Jew from an online animation someone made for Hanukkah a few years ago.

That makes my SECOND unguessed character next to Spinollio.
Anyhow, as an apology, please take this easier character.
    1. Every Thursday, I get an offering from a little girl.
    2. I show up in the beginning of the movie.
    3. Peanut butter is a must--never tuna.

Pudge the fish from Disney's Lilo And Stitch. As long as Pudge gets his peanut butter sandwich, the day will be nice, because Pudge controls the weather ... somehow.
