    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

B/W 40's or 50's? Group is washed down gutter and into Department store.

    I want to say this is a Christmas cartoon. I am also worried my brain has fused two cartoons together into one. But I believe the characters are washed down the street into an underground gutter. The ride in matchbooks and other items also washed down there. They then find themselves inside a large department store and there is an old style inter-departmental letter carrier that flies overhead on strings and is pulled from department to department. This all before pneumatic tubes.

    I wish I knew more about it and hope to see it again. I know not the studio and I hope someone can help me find it.

    Hi- do you remember anything about the characters? Were they mice? Was this a short? Did they sing songs?

    I can only think of one cartoon that sounds kinda like your description (minus the gutter), but it's not a Christmas toon.

    I don't remember the characters, but they would have been small enough to use a matchbook as a boat in the gutter scene. So could have been mice. Overall, music was predominate but I do remember them speaking. So half dialogue and half musical.

    Only reason I say "Christmas" was because it was always shown on a local Dallas/Ft Worth tv station during the school holidays back in the 70's for Christmas and New Year's break.

    I could be very well combining two different "shorts" in my brain. I'll take any name at this time point and look to see if it was the one I remembering. So whatever you might think of is better then any idea I'd have at this time. I've looked but takes forever, so hoping more eyes (and or knowledge of the history )might help.

    that you've mentioned,....

    Little Blabbermouse

    A group of mice are taken on a tour of a department store by a MC Fields mouse look-a-like. He's repeatedly interrupted by a little fast-talking inquisitive kid mouse with non-stop questions about everything.

    The Cat Came Back

    A Kitten and mouse at play are swept into a sewer. They find various
    items in the sewer that were also swept down to use as rafts/boats

    Little Blabbermouse! Yes that must be the one in the department store. Memory severs me now, it centred around a "tour" of the department store after hours at night. Excellent!

    The Cat Came Back, still fuzzy to me. I saw one online but was of a farmer and dog taking a cat out and throwing it into a river but it came back to torment them. Watch The Cat Came Back on Video (Theatrical Cartoon) at BCDB

    Then I saw same title of another Merrie Melodie released in 1936 but it's under copyright and not public domain (wonders how that works) and was pulled from youtube. So it looks like a strong lead still because I'm sure the TV station showing these were from same distributor for the owner of MM at the time or whoever was selling/renting the rights. So I'll have to see where to get these on disk.

    It's been years with off and on research online, I don't why I did't just pop in here and ask when I first remembered and wanted to see them again. Would be too much to ask where I can get these? Better via amazon or specialty site?
