Anyone heard of "Professor Beethoven"?

I was originally going to post this in Mystery Cartoon, but since I can identify it by name, I figured it would be more accurate to post it here.

I realize the net is global; we have posters here from Canada, British Columbia, the UK and other places worldwide, so I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with a cartoon series called "The Adventures of Professor Beethoven". I saw it once on HBO as a kid, where they billed it as a "special", but I believe that it was actually a series from some other country. The reason I'm sure that this was a series and not a special is because the opening title sequence featured 3 characters who didn't appear in the story. That's usually a giveaway.

Anyway, from what I remember, the title character was an intelligent scholarly bee (you knew he was really smart because he wore a graduation cap!), who was sort of the prime mover of this forest society of animals: there were a pair of koalas named Ki-Ki and Kookie (not sure if I'm spelling that right), who were twin brother and sister, a neurotic dog named Marvin, who wore a hat and a scarf and kind of resembled Smedley from the Chilly Willy cartoons, an elephant named Snozz and a large tiger who spoke black jive named Big Cat. The 3 characters who did not appear in the story (but were curiously included in the opening animation) were a mother and son pair of kangaroos and a bespectacled owl.

Does anyone elese remember this show, or what country it originated from? It didn't seem to be from the US, and indeed no books on kids' TV that I've ever read mention it all. Thanks in advance.
