    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Funnyman Will Ferrell and partner Adam McKay are working on bringing back everyone’s favorite stone-age family. The duo’s production company Gary Sanchez Productions is in development on a new Flintstones animated feature.

    Disney To Feast In France

    The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

Comedy Central announces 2011-12 development slate

    Robots taking over the world, a critic reviewing difficult life experiences, social networking, a closed-captioner gone wild, a music group trying to get discovered online and reviving a public affairs show from the '80s.

    These are just a few of the creative concepts coming out of Comedy Central's 2011-12 development slate announced Wednesday by Kent Alterman, CC's head of original programming and production.

    "There's nothing more compelling than describing comedy in short paragraphs, and we believe the following descriptions convey comedy development at its finest," said Alterman. "Of course this may all be moot if television as we know it implodes, so just in case, we are producing these low-tech so they will be appropriate for the Web."

    Projects in development included animation.

    Robots
    What if robots attempted to take over the world well before they actually had the ability to do so? This animated show pits a group of household electronics against their slacker owner, Jeff. Unbeknownst to Jeff, the Robots plot and scheme to take over the world every day, however, their lack of ability and understanding of humans eventually foils their plans sending them into a tailspin. Executive produced and written by Kumail Nanjiani (Comedy Central's Hot List, John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show), Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Bad Teacher).

    TripTank
    TripTank is a collection of animated shorts featuring comedy's brightest. This collaboration between executive producers Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico of ShadowMachine (Robot Chicken, Moral Orel) and Tom Gianas (Pretend Time with Nick Swardson, SNL) combines a variety of animated formats with a broad range of talented writers and creators, including Tommy Blacha, Tom Gammill, Jon Glaser, Laura Kightlinger, Joe Mande, Bob Odenkirk and Duncan Trussell. Plot lines include a behind-the-scenes look at the Roman Colosseum, a magical alcoholic wheelchair helping sick children, a group of aliens studying the world's most average guy, and the misgivings of a kidney transplanted into a supermodel.

    Untitled Cyanide and Happiness Project
    From the creators of the Cyanide and Happiness web comics and shorts comes a half-hour animated show featuring the twisted humor of a world populated by glorified stick figures. Executive produced and created by Kristipher Matthew Wilson, Robert Andrew DenBleyker, David McElfatrick and Matthew Melvin.
