    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

I dunno if this is a rumor or if it's true...but Disney could buy-out Sony.

Rumor. Worse, it seems to be part of a pitch in a short-trading scheme. Sony is perfectly stable, and foreign-owned. Disney already has enough assets to compete nose-to-nose or better with Sony Pictures, so they'd be disinclined to meddle in overseas production. Disney may have absorbed 20th Century Fox, but that was a domestic studio, practically a next-door neighbor.

I still think Disney buying FOX is conspiracy...especially in this day and age!

Once people nitpick Disney's past...we'll be going to Fox Studios Hollywood or Fox Studios Orlando!

Not a "conspiracy," Mister C, otherwise the SEC would've put the kibosh on the acquisition. No, Fox Animation went moribund after the flop of Titan A.E., so selling that division off for cash was just sound business for Fox Media Corporation. Disney picks up some talented, experienced animators, plus production equipment at fire sale prices.

(I think) one day, Viacom will own all American entertainment! Though Disney is big...the merger with Fox has hurt them! Warnermedia has no interest in buying stations right now...who knows...they may buy Disney! Universal may be next to merge with someone...probably MGM-Amazon.

But Viacom...they're a conglomerate and would rather buy than be bought-out!

If anything...this may be the next mergers...

    MGM-Amazon gets bought-out by Viacom.
    Comcast-Universal gets bought-out by Warnermedia.
    Viacom buys Sony.
    Viacom buys Disney.
    Warnermedia gets bought-out by Viacom.

I doubt there'll be anymore buyouts...but I just think of Demolition Man where everything is Taco Bell...Viacom is the Taco Bell of the entertainment world!

I won't doubt that'll happen...Sony buys Disney because Disney isn't doing too well as we speak.

If Sony buys Disney...will the Eastland girls from The Facts of Life be princesses...or just Blair Warner?

Only the Disney film studios are hurting. Disney's theme parks have had a dip in attendance, but that's creeping back to pre-virus levels. The only other Disney asset in decline is Marvel Comics, which recently lost a lot of talent to Substack. Disney merchandising is as strong as ever, and the corporation as a whole is still solid financially. Sony Corp. couldn't possibly scare up enough cash to buy out Disney; at best, they might get a fire sale on Marvel Comics and some other under-performing holdings, but that'd be about it. And nobody really wants to buy in on tanking properties. I cannot foresee a seismic buy-out either way.

I hope we're only talking about "Sony Entertainment" and not any other company. I used to work for Sony of America and would hate to see that happen.

The only studio Disney should be concerned is either WarnerMedia or Viacom.

Disney seems to be such a massive company, they want to buy out every production company that exists. They may even go to extreme heights and buy out WarnerMedia and Viacom for a massive price. I can see Disney someday owning the rights to the Hanna-Barbera library, but for now it's wishful thinking.

That's true, and it's the same strategy that Viacom used to amass a trove of intellectual properties. Viacom founder Sumner Redstone ruled the media conglomerate with an iron fist, and has set up himself, his bloodline, and trusted cronies to hold those properties in perpetuity. There's enough cash cows in that corral to sustain Viacom for a long, long time, so a buyout offer is almost an insult. As for Warner Media, they've owned by ATT, and they have even deeper pockets than Disney. If Disney could buy anything from ATT, it'd be the tanking CNN; Warner Media is still a cash cow that ATT is not going to part with any time soon.

(I think) Viacom may buy all the film studios since it is Viacom.

In a Fantasy League: Media Moguls game, sure, that could happen. In the real world? Impossible, the Securities and Exchange Commission would nix that monopoly. They broke apart the might Ma Bell Telephone into nine "baby Bells," so they'd likely crack any media conglomerate that gets too big. The SEC abhors monopolies and cornered markets. Fair market forces drive higher quality and lower prices.
