You WIll Need To Reset Your Password!!!

We just moved hosts on this system, and this has caused a few updates. One is the way we encode and store the encoded passwords.

Your old passwords will NOT work. You will need to reset your password. This is normal. Just click on reset password from the log in screen. Should be smooth as silk to do...

    Sorry for the hassle.

    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Disney has released the first trailer for Frozen, their take on the Snow Queen tale made famous by Hans Christian Andersen. Set for release this November, Frozen is a story that Walt himself considered doing, but never actually started on. A version was considered in 2002. By 2010, Disney shelved that project, then changed its status to “on hold.” The film gained new life in late 2011. when Disney announced a new title for the project (Frozen), and committed to a 2013 release date.

This reworking of the Andersen tale starts with a prophecy that traps a kingdom in eternal winter. Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Up until now, my impressions of this film have been of a cold and dark tale, something ominous and foreboding. All of that goes out the window with this trailer, which is more reminiscent of Scrat from Ice Age than a serious animated film from Disney. Honestly, I am not sure how to take this at this point. Let us know what you think of this direction for the film.

Directed by Chris Buck and Wreck It Ralph’s writer Jennifer Lee, Frozen and will release in the US on November 27, 2013. We have posted the trailer online on the BCDB Frozen Video page.

For what it's worth, a good trailer will never spoil the plot nor the climax. The idea is to introduce some of the characters, get an idea of how they behave and how they interact, what their circumstances are, and often what they're trying to accomplish. Anything more than that stops being a trailer and edges into a Cliff's Notes version of the film.

I believe that what we see in this trailer is a peek at what's in store. Disney knows better than to reveal so much that smarty-pants snarkers can expostulate the particulars. At this point, let me ask: would you like to see more of these characters? Do you have some idea of what they're trying to accomplish, and do you want to root for them to succeed? Speaking only for myself, the answers are yes-yes-yes.

Let me point out that the trailers for Beauty And The Beast and for Tangled among others really don't convey the depth nor the scope of their films. They only furnish enough to intrigue the audience, not to illustrate the story for them.
