    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Are there any H-B cartoons that have episodes where characters kick or smash doors with their feet, like in martial arts?

I would think Hong Kong Phooey would feature such stunts. I do believe many video games have that feature, but I am asking about H-B cartoon episodes.

If there are any, could you please post the episode title and the cartoon series the episode was from?

Kicking in doors / forced entry? From Hanna-Barbera? Not likely. During the Seventies, a bunch of busybodies led by Margaret Charren railroaded Congress into sanitizing "children's" television, which would outlaw excessive force, brutality, slugging and such. In short, every villain, even those that would boil babies, must be defeated with minimal harm. If he can't sneer, "Cursed, foiled again!" without wheezing or bleeding, the scene must be cut. Therefore, door-kicking during Hanna-Barbera's heyday when they were shoveling content into all three broadcast networks was taboo by law. Somehow, every villain lair is left unlocked; just open the door and waltz in.

Heck, not even HB's superheroes kicked doors open.

Didn't the episode "The Case of the Puzzled Pals" from The Little Rascals animated spinoff involve Butch being aggressive to Alfalfa, with physical shaking from his collar? Wasn't that against U.S. law?

If so, that might be another reason why there are no U.S. cable reruns nor VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray releases of the series.

Also, I noticed that Butch and Woim didn't appear much in the second season. In fact, of the nine new 11-minute segments that season, the bullies appeared only briefly in "The Big Sneeze", but the most they did was swipe Alfalfa's bike and it got run over by a steamroller. Other than that, the bullies only appeared in a repeat of "Tiny Terror", which did not involve physical aggression. It is likely that all 13 segments aired in Season 2 - including the four repeats from Season 1 - had no physical aggression. Maybe H-B learned from their mistakes from the first season, perhaps?

I wonder if "The Irate Pirates" involved swords, with no harm?

I bet even the DC comics superheroes used in "Super Friends" were not allowed to use physical force, if aired on Saturday mornings.

Though I could have sworn I remember seeing an episode where Superman smashed a door with many hands in a 7-minute short where Superman grew extra arms thanks to exposure to red kryptonite?
