    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    The cartoon opens with a pan over a jungle setting, and you come across a lion who lets out a tremendous roar, then looks at the camera and says, "I bit my widdle tongue."

    What is it?!

    My wife and I are writing a screenplay about our relationship, and one of the things we both remember from high school was watching this old cartoon late at night. We've never been able to figure out what the cartoon was, and we really want to be able to have that clip in the movie if we can find it.

    Another thing we remember from that same night is a cartoon with a little boy and a dinosaur, and all we can remember from that is at the very end, the dinosaur is singing a song and says, "And that just shows to go you..." something something something...

    I think the two cartoons might have been shorts shown within the same half hour, but I'm not sure if they always go together or if they were just shown together that night.

    Anyone recognize the description of this cartoon that opens with the lion?

    This sounds like a character that appeared in a few episodes of the animated "Beany and Cecil Show" in 1962. Actually, he is a leopard. Here is a character description;
    • Old Spot - The Spotted Leopard - A cowardly, toothless and Xenophobic old leopard that hid in the first jungle arrived at by the crew. Trying desperately to maintain his isolation from the interlopers, Old Spot would roar threatenly at any passerby or invader of his territory. On first encounter with Old Spot the crew was terrified of the unknown and imperious jungle beast. However, as the story unfolds, Cecil (who often exhibits psychological insights worthy of Sigmund Freud) begins to suspect that Old Spot is really a "good guy" and fearful of strangers. After a few minor skirmishes and a lot of trust, they all become good friends.
    Appeared in the episode entitled "The Spots Off a Leopard", the 8th Beany and Cecil cartoon in production. Old Spot is so decrepit he must rely on the use of a leopard kit containing gloves with sharp claws and a set of very scary looking false teeth. When he tries the teeth out he roars in pain and exclaims, "I bit my widdle tongue!".

    ~ Hey, Bmode! I went straight to the moon when The Beany and Cecil Show came out on DVD in 2003. I'd forgotten how crazy Bob Clampett and his Gang were for stupid little puns littered all thru these classic episodes. I remember when the show first came out in the early sixties the town newspaper had a full-page spread announcing it! Also, they printed character shapes you could cut out and with a little glue or Scotch tape you could make your own Beany and Cecil hand puppets! Super Cool!
