Losing Stan Freberg.

Stan Freberg, one of the greatest comedians and voice actors, has died at age 88.

He memorably performed with Daws Butler on the puppet show "Time For Beany" before it became the animated "Beany And Cecil." He also voiced Pete Puma, one of Bugs Bunny many adversaries, who got lumps when served tea and coffee, but not the ones he expected. And then there were the classic comedy records "St. George And The Dragonet," "Green Chri$tma$"(note the dollar signs), and "Christmas Dragnet."

He appeared in a few live action movies, and in the '80's, produced a Prince Pasta ad that presented "Prince" in concert, and a voice saying, "Oh, THAT Prince" as a box of spaghetti and jar of spaghetti sauce stood on stage ready to "perform."

RIP, Stan. You were truly one of the great ones. RIP.

Truth be told, for the longest time due to Mel Blanc being the only voice actor given credit for the WB shorts, I used to think--with the exception of the female voices of course, that Blanc did all the voices. Now that I know better, Freberg was one of those great unsung voice actors. His vocal chemistry with Blanc was terrific. I really liked hearing their voices play off one another, especially as the Goofy Gophers, (Blanc was Mac, Freberg was Tosh, although I've never been able to identify the gophers by their names--although I can easily tell them apart from their voices.) Alf/Spike (Blanc) and Chester(Freberg), Hubie (Blanc) and Bertie(Freberg) and of course Bugs Bunny and Pete Puma.

Of course his most memorable voices were those of Junyer Bear and Pete Puma, which were hilarious. I also know that he voiced the Gambling Bug from "Early to Bet" ,Benny from "Hoppy Go Lucky" and "Cat Tails For Two", Elmo from " A Hick, a Slick and A Chick",(although Blanc takes over when Elmo gets drunk.), Grover Groundhog from "One Meat Brawl" (although I think Blanc does the singing part) and Willie from "By Word of Mouse."

He also voiced a dim-witted alien appropriately named Mo-ron in Freakazoid.

Another great one gone. He voiced so many great cartoons.

I listened to Christmas Dragnet a long time ago, and remember it was really cute. I think i still have it.

RIP, Mr. Freberg, one of the true MAD Men. Does anyone know if he did voice work on the animated Beany & Cecil toons? I'm wondering if he was the voice of beatnik caveman Go Man Van Man Gogh.

I believe Go Man Van Go was originally voiced by Lord Buckley in "The Wildman of Wildsville" and Scatman Crothers for the bumpers after Buckley's death.
