    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

    The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

Moose and Squirrel Return With Peabody & Sherman

    [​IMG]Frostbite Falls most famous residents are coming to the big screen in 2014, according to DreamWorks Animation. Not only are Moose and Squirrel making their big screen debut in a new theatrical short, but a long-time voice actor is returning to provide one of the duo’s voices. While not explicitly stated in the release, it is expected that the short will accompany the theatrical feature film release of Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

    Long time voice actress June Foray will return as the voice of Rocket J. Squirrel, the flying half of the Rocky and Bullwinkle duo. Rocky also tends to be the brains of the outfit. The 95-year-old June Foray is a queen among voice actors, and was the driving force that initiated the Annie Awards, where animations best honor their own. Bullwinkle will be voiced by veteran voice actor Tom Kenny, most famous for his voice of Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants. The short will be directed by Rob Minkoff, who directed Beauty and the Beast while at Disney in the 1990’s.

    The original Rocky & Bullwinkle Show (originally titled Rocky and His Friends) began airing on November 19, 1959 with supporting segments which included “Peabody’s Improbable History” – upon which DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film Mr. Peabody & Sherman is based. Rocky, Bullwinkle, Natasha, Boris and a few other familiar faces get the show started with the all-new madcap adventure.

    The short is written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garan, and produced by Denise Nolan Cascino. The press release from DreamWorks says simply, “The short will be released in 2014,” but one would assume that it will play before the theatrical release of Mr. Peabody & Sherman. I mean, what studio could possibly give up a cross-over like that?
