    Other Side Of Maleficent

    I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

    The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    "Shrek the Third" and other films in the green ogre franchise have made Cameron Diaz the third highest-paid actress in Hollywood, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

    Diaz is making "$15+ million" a year, the trade paper said in issuing its annual list of Hollywood's top-priced actresses.

    Originally, she made six figures for voicing Princess Fiona in the 2001 animated fairy tale Shrek. However, after Shrek The Third earned over $320 million in North America alone, Diaz's paycheck zoomed to over $30 million due to a "generous" profit-sharing deal with the film.

    Reese Witherspoon, whose roles in animation have so far been confined to guest spots on King of the Hill and The Simpsons, has Hollywood's top salary at $15 million to $20 million.

    In third place is Angelina Jolie ($15 million to $20 million). She earned around $8 million for her latest film, the motion-capture Beowulf, for which she worked for just five weeks in her supporting role.

    Jolie will return to animation next June with DreamWorks' Kung Fu Panda. She'll be part of an all-star caston her first family-oriented film since Shark Tale(2004) -- also a DreamWorks release.

    Renee Zellweger is in fifth place with $10 million to $15 million, aided by the success of this year's Bee Movie, in which she voiced Vanessa opposite Jerry Seinfeld's Barry B. Benson.

    In eighth place at $10 million to $12 million, Drew Barrymore returns to comedy next August in Disney's animated South of the Border, starring as Chloe.

    Also in the top 10: Nicole Kidman (#4; $10 million to $15 million), Sandra Bullock (#6; $10 million to $15 million), Julia Roberts (#6; $10 million to $15 million), Jodie Foster (#9; $10 million to $12 million) and Halle Berry (#10; $10 million).
