    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE RULES IF YOU WOULD LIKE PLAY.
    1. Please limit your characters to those found in theatrical or television animation, which may include televised commercials. No video game characters unless that character has appeared in a cartoon.
    2. When it is your turn to post the mystery character, first verify that your character has not already been used by checking against the master list found below. Give at least 3 clues per day (roughly, no one is going to be timing you). Don't give more than 9 clues total for the character, but you can reveal the character after only 6 if you prefer.
    3. If no one has correctly guessed the character after 6 clues (or if you wish, 9, but not more), reveal the character and take another turn. If no one gets the second character after the requisite number of clues, reveal the answer but do not take another turn. Instead of taking a third turn, you must pass to someone else. To whom you pass is up to you, but please try to be fair.
    4. Please do not ask for any extra clues or for information not covered by the clues already given.
    5. Our goal is to only take around 3 days per character, or 4 days if 9 clues are given. This is to keep the game going at an enjoyable pace. In the event that a character generates a LOT of guesses, that time limit may be adjusted.
    6. A point is given for each correct character guessed. In the event of two people both posting correct guesses, the one who posted first will be given the point and the next turn.
    7. Please try your best to make your clues descriptive of the character; no one has any fun when no one can ever guess the character.
    8. Please limit your mystery character choices to those that have appeared primarily in the US. It is an unavoidable fact that the vast majority of people who post here are from the US, which is why we ask that all characters used appeared in the US in one form or another. This does not eliminate international characters by any means- just make sure you can provide information that would identify the character to someone who speaks only English and has never been outside of the US. As can be seen in the Used Character List linked below, there are international characters that have already been used, but in each case they've also appeared in the US and in English.
    9. The intentions of the member posting the mystery character will always be considered in any disagreements that may (hopefully not) arise, but as always, the word of the Administration is final.
    10. These rules may be amended at any time without prior notice.
The Master Character List is now located here, as a downloadable .rtf file. Please check there for the most recent version.
Additionally, scores are now updated on a running basis throughout the game.

Here we go with the next character. Who is this?

    1) I'm a gloomy, naysaying stick-in-the-mud.

    2) My prophesies of doom are not heeded by the film's eponymous hero.

    3) I have no choice but to go with the rest at the end.

    OUB, et. al.

This is a more senior forum, in my opinion. The rules are looser, and we allow more, uh, off topic discussions. Therefore, I have made this series of forums (The After Hours Boards) , ONLY postable by more senior members. That is, those with ten or more posts... (oh, and because I am a super creep, you ALSO have to have 5 days in the forum... you cannot make ten posts in one day to jump onto this forum. )

I know that hurts now, today.... but I do not think it will be too long until there is a cadre of members with 10 or more posts....

Perhaps this is Eeyore, from the Winnie The Pooh series? Known for his doleful expression, morose demeanor and pessimistic posits. Even when doom seems certain, Eeyore goes along anyway, perhaps because he has nothing better to do.

Just as an FYI, peterhale correctly guessed my character from the old forum. So the game is continuing where we left off.

As for the clues, I'll need to wait for the next set.

    Not Eeyore.

    4) I have arms and legs - which might strike you as rather odd.

    5) When the hero says we should stick together, I've heard it all before. I'm getting out of here, but a hot rivet changes my mind.

    6) My voice actor did voices for many studios - Disney, Fleischer, Warners, MGM, Screen Gems, Lantz - what a clown!

Still don't have it, regretfully. I'll have to think a little harder.

Back with the right answer. It's Mr. Creeper, from "Mr Bug Goes To Town," AKA "Hoppity Goes To Town," and "Bugville."

    Guess I'll explain the clues:

    1. Mr Creeper is indeed a naysayer.

    2. Hoppity does ignore his warnings, which, in fact, don't actually come to pass.

    3. He does go with the other insects.

    4. He, as well as the other insects, have arms and legs instead of the normal six legs.

    5. When the insects are trapped on the construction site, he's burned by a hot rivet.

    6. His voice actor was Pinto Colvig, who voiced many characters at the aforementioned studios, and also was one of many actors to play "Bozo The Clown."

Spot on, emeraldisle, it is indeed Mr Creeper!

    mrCreeper.jpg
"No use movin', we're doomed ter go! An' don' fergit I tol' yer so!"

As regards clue 4 - Mr Creeper is drawn in the same humanoid style as the other insects - but he is actually meant to be a snail.

Pinto Colvig had, of course, voiced a similar curmudgeon in Snow White - Grumpy!

    The baton is yours, em!

Thanks, Pete. Now here's the first cartoon character I post in this new forum:

    1. My series begins deep in the heart of the Amazon.

    2. Unlike the dad in a very similar live action show, I'm accompanied not only by my two kids, but also by my wife and the family dog.

    3. My family and I teach our new friends about everything from submarines to catapults.

The character I thought it was didn't pan out. So now, I don't know.

In that case, here are the last three clues:

    4. Every time my family and I come up with ways to leave our new home, something goes terribly wrong.

    5. Coincidentally, my voice actor voiced a caveman on a similar animated series my studio produced back in 1966.

6.. Also coincidentally, my show resurfaced on Cartoon Network the same week "Jurassic Park" premiered in the theaters.

I'm going to guess John Butler from "Valley of the Dinosaurs." I had to check Wikipedia for the character names because I don't watch this HB cartoon.

Fluidgirl, you win hands down! Now to explain the clues:

    1. The show's opening describes how the Butlers were exploring the Amazon in their raft when the series began.

    2. John was accompanied by his wife Kim, daughter Katie, son Greg, and the family dog Digger. That's two more than the main cast of "Land Of The Lost," which aired concurrently with it.

    3. After meeting and befriending Gorok, Gara, Lok, Tana, and Glump, the Butlers taught them about submarines, catapults, etc by building primitive but workable models.

    4. Throughout the series, the Butlers found ways to leave the valley, and return to civilization. However, there'd invariably be a catch-22 that spoiled their chances.

    5. John Butler was voiced by Mike Road, who eight years earlier, voiced Ugh the Caveman in "Dino Boy In The Lost Valley," the supporting segment on "Space Ghost."

    6. The series was only seen sporadically after its cancellation. But it resurfaced on Cartoon Network in the summer of 1993-the same week "Jurassic Park" premiered.

All yours, Fluidgirl. Great job! :)

OK, I think I've got somewhat of an all-too-easy one. As I had stated in the previous forum, I'm not all that great at giving tricky clues.

    1. I'm what you would call a frequent flyer

    2. I'm transportation for the main characters

    3. The main characters and I aren't from the same world
