    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Here's one from something I watched last night.
"Man, like he had a bad trip."

Hint--these are the ONLY spoken words said in this short--and not by either of the main characters who talk in all of their other shorts. Here, they are completely silent except for the bad character constantly breaking into bouts of diabolical laughter every time he harms the good character.

One more clue: This is from perhaps one of the most obscure series of theatrical shorts from The Depatie-Freleng studio. A hippie takes on a hater.

I'd say it's someone from Roland and Rattfink.

Indeed. It's from "Hurts and Flowers." This is the second Roland and Rattfink short. Neither Roland nor Rattfink talk in this one--although Rattfink does laugh a lot. The quote belongs to a hippie who has been playing along with Roland some music who has just witnessed Rattfink's death.

Incidentally, I now finally own that DVD collection. So happy!

Second hint: At the end of this episode, two boys refuse to kiss a girl after she kisses them.

Oh, I think I almost remember this one. It's the original series Jonny Quest, the episode about a native folk healer / witch doctor who likes to play his drums at all hours. The nasty fellow probably couldn't cure a hangnail, but his drumming is done to mask the sound of machinery that foreign subversives are running. Nosy fools that come snooping get zombie-ized by blowgun darts that the witch doctor claims are the result of a curse about treading sacred ground. Seriously, this fellow could be the inspiration for Andy Serkis' version of Smeagol.

Goodie, not everything in my head is rust and cobwebs. :) And speaking of diabolical laughter:

Yes, Salty, that's precisely where the quote originates. It's the exact cartoon that caused such a kerfuffle (in Australia, I think?) because some triggered mother felt that the line was so demeaning to females that it devalued her daughter somehow. I'll have to peruse ED to get the details, but yeah, a whinge-fest. Dang, everyone should know by now Bugs Bunny is a confirmed bachelor, like Leo D or George Clooney.

Oh, then that would make these quotes from Dreamworks Animation's Shark Tale. Will Smith provided the voice for Oscar, the tongue-scrubber at the whale wash. That'd be the first line. The second line must come from his girlfriend (girl-fish?) at the time, Angie. Now that Oscar is regarded as the local savior, though erroneously, he has attracted the attention of the seductive Lola.
