The key word here is brimstone, which occurs in Dreamworks Animation's first Shrek film. It comes as Shrek and Donkey approach the castle which imprisons Princess Fiona. Since that castle is planted in the middle of a volcano's caldera, there's a lot of sulfur in the air, which Shrek identifies as brimstone. When these two intrepid rescuers (well, one's intrepid, anyway) encounter a rope bridge as the approach to the castle, Donkey is all for bailing on their mission, but Shrek won't tolerate it, which frames the quotes cited.
