    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Aha! Another no-brainer. It's Mama Bear, from "Bugs Bunny And The Three Bears."

Yep, easy as pie. It's indeed Mama bear smitten with Bugs.

Thanks, Salty. Now here's another one that's just as easy:

"You know? Your ma ain't crazy. She's just broken-hearted. And it ain't nobody's fault you got them big ears."

I'm mightily sure this quote comes from Disney's Dumbo, but since I've never seen Dumbo (to my great shame), I can't pinpoint the character. It's likely to be either Timothy Mouse in that band uniform, or one of the crows that, despite the stereotyping, speak a goodly amount of truth and wisdom. Hazarding a pure guess, then, I'll say Jim Crow, the most prominent of the avians.

Actually, OUB, you were right the first time when you said Timothy. Good job, so you may post another quote.

I was in the same boat as OUB--knew it was from Dumbo but couldn't figure out if it was Timothy or one of the crows. Unlike OUB though, I have seen Dumbo before, but that was when I was very little. I should probably watch it again--except that one of the most terrifying sequences is in there--those Pink Elephants from Hell--er I mean on Parade. ;)

Uh-oh, the quote I have in mind comes from another Nightmare Fuel sequence. I'm a bad bunny.

This would be Bugs Bunny from Space Jam after watching the tiny Nerdlucks transform into the powerful and towering Monstars thanks to absorbing the powers of some NBA champions.

That's precisely where the quote comes from. So, Glowworm can watch tiny Nerdlucks transform like One-Winged Angels into the Monstars, but she can't stomach Dumbo's fantastical pink elephants. Yep.

I never found the Monstars transformation sequence to be scary believe it or not--heck it was even funny because Bang--the big green one, is naked before he finally transforms. I actually thought the transformation sequence was pretty awesome as a kid. The elephants on the other hand--I saw that when I was five--it did not help that I had a Disney sing-along- tape with that one on it. I watched the sequence again while I was in college--it was STILL terrifying.

Anyway, let's get out of the scary stuff and go for something else.

Timon, from "The Lion King." Haven't seen that one in quite a while.

Yeah, one of the best parts of the movie--Timon and Pumba creating a diversion in front of a bunch of hyenas.

Uncle Tom, from "Uncle Tom's Bungalow",not to be confused with "Uncle Tom's Cabana",which I have done in the past.Well, they're both directed by Tex Avery, just for different studios.

Here's a hint: this quote was from TV's first " adult" cartoon.
