    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, now with 20% more ongoing.

Thanks, Glowworm. Now for one who hasn't been posted here yet:

    1. I'm the smallest member of an unlikely military trio.

    2. My superior officers and I aren't even human.

    3. I help rescue a couple's offspring--and then some!

I think I know this one, too. Should I sit this one out as well?

Hopefully, these clues will make it easier:

    4. I live on a farm near the villains' hideout.

    5. Of the aforementioned trio, I'm the only one with a last name.

    6. My movie was the first from the studio to have a number in the title.

Oh, then seeing as nobody rose to the response, here goes: Sergeant Tibbs the cat from Disney's 101 Dalmatians. He's the one that actively leads the puppies away from Horace and Jasper, and out of Hell Hall. His superiors are the Captain, a surprisingly well-fed and healthy horse amid all the dereliction and decay; and the Colonel, an English sheepdog that's gotten hard of hearing in his twilight years. One huge aversion of Disney's usual Cats Are Mean trope. I would hope that, because of his excellent work rescuing the puppies, Sergeant Tibbs was promoted to Lieutenant. :)

OUB, you got it. It is indeed Sergeant Tibbs, and for all those reasons. So you go again. Good job. :)

Wow, that wuz fast. So, who's missing on the Big List? * Oh, surprise, here's a missing half. Let me correct that.

    1) This character first appeared in theatrical cartoons, right alongside the studio's flagship character.

    2) While the role of Cinderella would be a plum role for any cartoon female, this character would have a hard time qualifying, since her feet are much too big.

    3) Gender discrimination, again. While this character's male counterpart gets all the glory, she herself appears only when a Damsel In Distress is needed, or as The Chick. It's gotten better over the many years, but remains a lopsided ratio by comparison.

Could this possibly be ... Minnie Mouse?

More than possibly, it's definitely Minnie Mouse, the female counterpart to Mickey Mouse. Minnie is there in Steamboat Willie, and also appears in Plane Crazy, which was produced before Steamboat Willie, but was screened in public third in Mickey's filmography. It took quite a while for Minnie to emerge from the "help, Mickey, save me from this horny villain" pigeonhole, and as recently as Runaway Brain, it's still her go-to role. And judging by those very wide pumps she wears, Minnie's feet aren't much smaller than Mickey's. Good for you, PeterHale, for putting Minnie on the List of Used Characters, rather than let her waste away in the unguessed bin. I'll give you a fresh +1 for that, plus control of the game board. :)

Yes, the inevitable tack-on love-interest. But the only one, I think, to have a song dedicated to her by her boyfriend - "Minnie's Yoohoo", sung by Mickey in Mickey's Follies (1929) (with some very ugly mouth shapes!) and subsequently Mickey's theme song.

    1) I am one of a pair of minions whose appropriately violent names are derived from human reactions to us.
    2) I'm the short one, with glasses.
    3) We imprison the hero along with a vital piece of paper.

"Short one with glasses" that's a minion to a villain, with a violent name. Helmets on, I'm bricking again: Killer, henchdog to Carface from All Dogs Go To Heaven.

Sorry for the delay - limited computer time!

Good shot, OUB, but not quite on the button. More clues...

    4) I tell my colleague "Let me do it! You always have all the fun! (sniff) I never get to hit nobody on the head or things like that..."
    5) I sure wish we coulda gone to d' weddin'! I adores weddin's, an.. an'.. funerals an' things...
    6) I'm the cute one. But my eyes are much smaller than you might think.

    No, not Bebop. Final clues...

    7) When the hero calls on the townsfolk to stick together I am moved to join in ("Me too - I'm gonna stick together!") until my comrade snatches me back.
    8) While the hero leads the townsfolk upwards we have to chip our boss off the wall.
    9) I consider the happy ending "very romantical."

Thank you for saving the day, Glowworm - it is indeed Swat the Fly!

I think all the clues are self-evident, but clue 6 refers to the gag where he takes his glasses off to wipe them, revealing tiny little eyes.

    Over to you, Glow...
