    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, now with 20% more ongoing.

I think I can do this one.
    1. I'm a superhero of the educational variety.
    2. My voice actor (most of the time) was also known for being an eccentric candy creator and a not quite so mad scientist.
    3. I use the letters on my sweater to fight an evil word changing man.

I think I found the answer. It's Letterman, from The Adventures of Letterman.

Yes, it's Letterman, an animated segment from the original Electric Company. Letterman was voiced by the late Gene Wilder.

    Got one.

I am the title character of a movie.
I perform magic with the use of an instrument.
I wear an eye patch, but I'm not a pirate.

This would be Kubo from Laika Entertainment's Kubo And The Two Strings. Kubo can play a magic shamisen to help him regain his father's armor. It also lets him "repay" his grandfather for taking his eye out, necessitating the eye patch.

Sweet, I like stars. :) Oh look, only one character in a set has been tapped; it'd be rude to leave his colleagues out in the cold.

    1) This character appears in a regularly televised animated cartoon series that's no longer in production. It is available on video, however.

    2) The youngest of the three main characters has been elevated to Mystery Character, so that leaves two others in the set. This character is the de facto face and spokesman for the group.

    3) This character speaks English. Not the ivory tower academia proper English, but an understandable street slang version, surprisingly devoid of vulgarity. Which is odd, since he and his cohorts are foreigners.

    Intermediate clues time.

    4) Not to disparage these characters, but the popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a huge factor in the creation of this Power Trio.

    5) No loving mother would give her son the name that this character wears proudly. It's likely a moniker derived from his enjoyment of moving fast.

    6) Oh, and when I said "foreigner," I meant it in the strongest sense possible. As in, from another planet entirely.

Easily found, thanks to those last three clues. It's Throttle, from "Biker Mice From Mars."

That's right on the money, Em. We've already tapped Vinnie some time ago, so I'm adding Throttle, leaving so far only Modo untapped. This is a Marvel Productions series that saw greener grass in the Ninja Turtles yard. Have a newly-minted +1, and control of the board. :)

Thanks, OUB. Now for one who's been ignored completely until today:

    1. Along with the title character, I'm freed from an unlikely prison.

    2. Unlike her, I really need to brush up on my magic.

    3. My voice actor once joined a famous comic trio.

    Three more clues:

    4. My animated series is one of many spinoffs of a live action one.

    5. She and I are discovered by a surfer boy instead of an astronaut.

    6. Neither of us inspired a classic Christina Aguilera song.

Oh, this is Babu, an inept, bumbling genie that's a kind of padawan to Jeannie from the lamp. They're from the Jeannie version by Hanna-Barbera Studios, and were discovered by Corey Anders. Interestingly, Corey Anders' voice actor is Mark Hamill, who went on to become one doozy of an astronaut. Babu's voice actor is the late Joe Besser, who filled in among The Three Stooges until 1958. "Yabble dabble!" and *poof* the magic goes wrong. Maybe if he had a ponytail like Jeannie's ...

Took me awhile to think up another character, but here he is nonetheless:

    1) This character appears in a regularly televised animated cartoon series that's no longer in production. One season only, no encores.

    2) Most of the other characters in this series are humans; this character isn't, because he's the family pet that just happens to speak English from time to time.

    3) As a general rule, a housepet is smaller than most family members. Not in this case: this character is bigger than and outweighs the patriarch by a goodly margin. No pet store today would have him for sale.
