    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

    Got one.
    1. In this UPA short, I'm the daughter of a miner.
    2. I swoon over a newcomer who loves baked beans.
    3. That's how I finally win him over, and how my father takes over his goldmine.

    4. My short loosely revolves around a well known folk ballad of a miner's daughter.
    5. Unlike the one mentioned in the song, I don't drown--although I pretend to, in order to get the attention of the man I'm in love with.
    6. If you haven't figured out the song by now, it'll probably help if you know that a certain Hanna Barbara dog was known for constantly singing the chorus.

I knew it from the start, but wanted to see if someone else would get it first. It's Clementine.

Thanks, Glowworm. Time for another totally untapped one:

    1. We're friends of the title character.

    2. Along with two other species, we're threatened by the adversary who narrates the story.

    3. In our case, we're forced to leave due to a lack of fruit from the trees.

Ok, these are the last clues:

    4. Physically, we resemble bears.

    5. After a while, our land becomes completely uninhabitable as a result of air and water pollution.

    6. Our buddy, the title character, speaks for the trees.

Bonus clue: The animated special aired only a year after the book was published.

Okay, I had to look this one up, because I was a mere grade-school gloob at the time. These would be the Bar-ba-loots from Doctor Seuss's The Lorax. The Barbaloots subsist on the fruit of the truffula trees, and migrate elsewhere once the truffula trees start being harvested. Later, the Swomee Swans and the Humming Fish vanish from the area due to the noxious discharge of the Thneed factory.

All right, this one's more of a bit character, but still has a memorable scene.

    1) This character appears only once to date in a feature film that's not 100% animated. More like 50% animated.

    2) This character survives to the end of the scene, so she could recur.

    3) Despite being female, this character adheres to the Rules of the Road. Absolutely, no matter what.

    Intermediate clues time.

    4) Say what you might about this character, she maintains an excellent hourglass figure. A corset might be involved, but regardless: dangerous curves ahead.

    5) This character is what's called a Butter Face. Keep that hip flask handy.

    6) For this character, the whole calendar is Sadie Hawkins Day.

Yes, this is man-crazy Lena Hyena from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Though the keyhole (naughty Eddie, peeping through keyholes!), Eddie Valiant thinks he's found the elusive Jessica Rabbit, judging by body shape. Wrong-o! Good deduction, Glow. :D

    Got one.
    1. I set off with an important military document.
    2. I don't return back to headquarters, so my flyer buddies are worried about me.
    3. Where am I? AWOL with a sexy enemy spy.

Aha, good one! This is Valiant the messenger pigeon, distributed in the United States through the Disney network. An interesting note: the British really did train pigeons to carry messages during World War II, and Those Wacky Nazis really did train falcons to intercept them.

Close, but not quite, oneuglybunny. You're on the right trail animal and position wise--but the character is not from Valiant.

    Three more.

This TV series is still in production.
    My mom hates clowns.
That's because my dad is a clown.
