    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

This can only be The Little King, produced by Van Beuren, which ceased to exist 80 years ago. Don't know if the shorts were actually in monochrome, since I never saw them.

Yes, this is the Little King, from the very early cartoons that played before the feature in movie theaters. I'm not sure Van Beuren Studios survived long enough to produce works in color, even using two-strip techniques. Fleischer Studios nearby and Walt Disney were stiff competition, having largely eclipsed Felix The Cat and Pat Sullivan's studio already.

Thanks, OUB. Now to make up for my last character, here's an easy one:

    1. I'm the elderly matriarch of the clan.

    2. Although I already have five sons, I take in a sixth, and also change his name.

    3. Eventually, my sons and I are arrested for the "crime" of making toys.

    Three more clues:

    4. My family were toymakers to the king.

    5. The villain of the special made it possible for me to raise the baby.

    3. I also befriend a warlock, penguin, and schoolteacher.

Oy, again I almost know this one. It's that Arthur Rankin + Jules Bass stop-motion Christmas cartoon Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town. This is Mother Kringle, who adopts the infant Kris, who would grow to be Kris Kringle. Since his philanthropy falls afoul of the humorless burgermeister, he takes on the moniker Santa Claus to continue his toy disbursement project. I'm not sure if she has a prenomen, or if it's ever mentioned. Sandra Kringle, maybe?

Actually, it's Tanta Kringle, but still a good job. :). You may post again.

Sweet. Well, it's not quite Christmas-y themed, but there is oodles of snow, so ... close enough? Here goes:

    1) This character made her debut in an animated feature film, then made two further appearances in direct-to-video sequels.

    2) The weather outside is cold and snowy, but this character has a nice fur coat, so she's not badly chilled by it all.

    3) Of course, it's the guys that hog most of the camera time. Nonetheless, this character contributes significantly in the first installment, qualifying as an Action Girl before being sidelined by a sore foot.

    Intermediate clues time.

    4) This character and the title character spend some time together, but no dancing. His feet are too big, and she noticed that. No dancing, nope.

    5) She lives about as far west as anyone can go and still be in the United States. She's even further west than Lilo and Stitch!

    6) And this character is not human. She lives in a town full of humans, but she's not one herself. Nor is her love interest, obviously.

I'll bet ten to one it's Jenna, the female dog from "Balto."

A thousand percent return on investment? Where can I get that? Yes, this is Jenna from Balto 1, 2 and 3. In the first feature, she actually tangles with an angry bear, before discovering that she has hurt her forepaw. Muk and Luk offer to escort her back to Nome, leaving Balto to continue the quest alone. And Nome, Alaska is 165.4° West longitude, compared with Honolulu, Hawaii at 157.8° West longitude. Excepting the Aleutian chain, you can't get Wester than that. Good deducing, EmeraldIsle. The board is yours. :D

Thanks, OUB. Now I'll venture into untapped territory once again.

    1. I narrate a long-forgotten special.

    2. Given my name, what I happen to be, and the setting of the special, you'd think it was about St. Patrick's Day rather than Christmas.

    3. My voice actor most famously starred in a classic sitcom along with Jackie Gleason.

    Three more clues:

    4. My full name rhymes with the last name of my voice actor.

    5. I'm also named for the most famous stone in Ireland.

    6. With a banshee in the picture, my special could also be considered part Halloween.

Well, since I'm leaving town today for Christmas, I'll reveal the answer. It's Blarney Kilikilarney, from "The Leprechauns' Christmas Gold," another obscure holiday special. Now to explain the clues:

    1. Self-explanatory.

    2. He's a leprechaun, natch.

    3. He was voiced by Art Carney.

And the last three clues are also self-explanatory. I leave the next character for someone else as a Christmas present to my fellow moderators.

Wow, I actually know of this special, but hadn't checked in on the game at the time. I've been a bit busy. Oh well. Merry Christmas, emeraldisle.

Well, since there were no takers, I guess I'll post another:

    1. I'm totally ruthless for a little guy.

    2. I'm named after my species.

    3. Help! I've become bird food!

In all truthfulness--not my favorite Pixar movie as a child--Loved that bird though!
    1. A little girl goes searching for a mythological creature in the woods.
    2. She finds me instead.
    3. I am cute and fluffy though--and I have one horn!
