    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, now with 20% more ongoing.

Right, Glowworm. That's her, all right. Now to explain the clues: The first three and last three are self-explanatory, as is the one about DC Comics. As for clue 5, Catwoman was to have been part of the Legion Of Doom, but she already had a "commitment" to Filmation's "New Adventures Of Batman." So Cheetah was her replacement. And in the series finale, "History Of Doom," the villains destroyed both the Superfriends and themselves, but three aliens intervened, and undid the damage. Good job. :) Your turn now.

Didn't want that one to go unguessed--that's for certain.
    Here we go.
    1. We are an extremely close trio.
    2. We first appeared as a jewel thief and outsmarted a bumbling police detective.
    3. We later appeared as a side series and basically did a bunch of odd jobs.

Easy. It's The Brothers Matzoriley, from "Super Six."

    1. They have three heads on one body. Can't get closer than that.

    2. They initially outwitted the Inspector in "The De Gaulle Stone Operation."

    3. They appeared in "Super Six," and were officially the only ones who weren't superheroes. They did odd jobs instead.

Correct! It is the Brothers Matzoriley from "Super Six." Also known as Weft, Wight and Wong.

Thanks, Glowworm. Now for one that's earned a place in this game:

    1. I have an evidently sweet name.

    2. I accompany an early days character whose name sounds like a brand of chocolate syrup.

    3. Unfortunately, the cartoons starring me and my guy will never be seen on TV.

    Three more clues:

    4. My name is a substance associated with bees.

    5. It's also the name of a classic Bobby Goldsboro song, and double that in a classic ABBA song.

    6. My boyfriend and I return in 1990 in a brilliant spoof of a baseball-themed movie.

    Cupcake clues:

    7. I began my career by sinking in the bathtub, or in my case, a shower.

    8. My shorts were exclusively filmed in black and white.

    9. They also began and ended in the 1930's.

I'm not leaving this one unguessed--I knew this one from the beginning, but thought someone else would get it. This is Honey, Bosko's girlfriend.

Yeah, they used to show Bosko shorts on Nickelodeon in the very early 90s when I was quite small.
The odd part is that when the characters moved to MGM--they actually turned them into real African American kids--the stereotypical kind too.
    Anyhow, speaking of stereotypes...
    1. My buddy and me had our first outing as a pair of dimwitted birds trying to catch a grasshopper.
    2. In our second short, we appeared as cats--but with the same voices, names and characteristics we had before.
    3. In our last short, we appeared as birds again trying to outwit a certain hunter as we stole from his cornfield.

    More clues.
    4. As cats, we dare to attempt to catch the fastest mouse in all Mexico.
    5. Eventually our characters became frogs--different studio, different names--same gags and behavior though.
    6. Apparently, we are also fans of a certain carrot chewing rabbit.

Yeah, that sounds like something Isadore "Friz" Freleng would do. He's known for being partial to the "Those Two Fools" comedy mechanism, and for recycling gags into altered venues.

Nope, not George and Benny but oneuglybunny's remarks are rather on the nose for a clue--although George and Benny were created by Robert Mckimson. Friz Freleng does indeed have his name all over these guys.

Correct, Saltyboot. All of the shorts were directed by Friz Freleng. These characters were later developed into the Tijuana Toads at the Depatie-Freleng studio.

I am the leader of my pack.
My lieutenants have a hard time taking me seriously.
There’s a reason for that. My voice box malfunctioned.

Aha, this is Alpha the Doberman, chief of Charles Muntz's battalion of canine cohorts. Alpha is a Drill Sergeant Nasty that likes to bully and belittle his underlings, especially poor Dug. That's likely why Dug abandoned his loyalty to Muntz to side with Russell, Carl and Kevin. From Pixar's promise-fulfillment fantasy Up.

Yep, the answer is Alpha. The chief with the squeaky voice, thanks to his voice collar.
