    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, ongoing-ier.

Oho, EmeraldIsle does know her cartoon characters well. This is the irascible Alexandra Cabot from Josie and the Pussy Cats and Josie ... in Outer Space. Alexandra started out as a bobbed brunette in the Archie Comics, and got made over by Iwao Takamoto for Hanna-Barbera into a raven ponytail with a Skunk Stripe. And Alexandra routinely took lumps, pokes, punctures and other indignities as backlash for her glory-hog tendencies. Well done, EI; collect another +1 and launch another fine Mystery Character.

Thanks, OUB. But since Glowworm hasn't posted one yet this year, I pass my turn to her.

Thanks, and I just so happen to have a character up my sleeve that I've been saving for a while.
    1. I am an exterminator.
    2. However, I am a different kind of exterminator--what I'm getting rid of isn't of the bug or pest variety.
    3. In fact, what I'm hunting down is relativly harmless--however, my exaggerated tales make them seem downright terrifying.

You're welcome. Can't think of any exterminators that match the clues.

I think I need some more clues to figure this one out.

    All right...
    4. I'll do anything to get what I most desire--even if it means commiting mass genicide or dressing in drag.
    5. The irony is that I actually can't have what I want, but I am blind to it--or maybe I am just too stuborn to realize it.
    6. My demise is very similar to what may possibly be the most disgusting Monty Python sketch ever.

Well, I just found out the most disgusting sketch by those guys is the one about Mr. Creosote. But I can't think of a cartoon character who died that way.

This is likely wrong, but I'll throw him out there anyway:

Lord Farquaad from the first Shrek feature film. Marrying a princess will not automatically make him a king, no matter how much he wants the crown. He gets munched by a dragon, whole. His final moments spent touring a large reptile's alimentary canal ... euw. Thing is, Farquaad's exiling the fairy tail creatures was closer to accomplishing his goal of kingship: regency by conquest, which is how Alexander the Great operated.

Nope, not Lord Farquaad from Shrek.

Perhaps these should put this character to rest...
    7. The film I am in is a stopmotion one.
    8. The title characters don't eat babies, nor do they kill people--those are just rumors I've spread.
    9. A baby did go missing, but he was raised by the title characters under the sewers.

I didn't see this one, but I found the answer. It's Archibald Snatcher, from "The Box Trolls."

Yes, I was a bit worried it was a bit too early to put up this character, as I usually wait until a movie I've seen comes out on DVD--this one will next week. It is Archibald Snatcher from "The Box Trolls."
    Let's go through the clues:
    1. Archibald Snatcher calls himself a Box Troll exterminator.
2.Boxtrolls are basically harmless creatures who search for odds and ends to fix up and repair.
    3. As mentioned before, the Boxtrolls are harmless--but Snatcher spreads tales that they eat babies and children and are extremely dangerous.
    4. More than anything, Snatcher wishes to gain a White Hat and be able to attain the privilege of eating rare and fancy cheeses amongst the city officials--the White Hats. In order to gain his hat, Snatcher proposes that he will get rid of all the Boxtrolls--basically genocide. Also, Snatcher has an alter-ego, who is well loved by the men of the village, Madame Frou Frou, a performer who sings about the so-called terrifying Boxtrolls.
    5. Oh, but the wonderful bitter irony is that Snatcher is either terribly allergic--or lactose intolerant to cheese--to the point where he can get disgustingly swollen. He tries to ignore this, although his henchmen and later Eggs try to prevent him from enjoying some cheese.
    6. Oh geez--this clue. Okay, at the end of the film, Snatcher is downright monstrous looking from falling into a giant cheese. (remember, that allergy/ lactose intolerance) He then forces Lord Portly Rind to give up his White Hat in exchange for his daughter's safety. He finally gets to partake in some rare cheese--and explodes after just one bite. Oh yeah, that extremely disgusting Monty Python sketch it's very similar too? That would be from "The Meaning of Life" Mr. Creosote--in which a morbidly obese man explodes after eating a dinner mint. I've only seen bits of this scene--mainly the explosion--but believe me, it disturbs the crap out of me. Surprisingly, Snatcher's demise isn't nearly as gruesome as the explosion part happens off screen.
    7. The Boxtrolls is a stop-motion film.
    8. As mentioned above, everything the townsfolk know about the Boxtrolls is untrue--just rumors spread by Snatcher.
    9. Eggs--the title character is taken in and raised by the Boxtrolls in their sewer lair.

Thanks, Glowworm. Now here's one that's easy as pie:

    1. I'm part of a large group of space travelers.

    2. My nickname has something to do with the skeletal system.

    3. I keep reminding my Captain that I'm just a doctor, and also tell him when someone's dead.

That would be Doctor McCoy from Star Trek
I believe his nickname is Bones and he's always saying "Damn it, Jim! I'm a doctor, not a (insert profession here)!" and "He's dead, Jim."

I must bow out on choosing a character--I've got work tomorrow morning, and my boyfriend is coming to see me later. Thank you.

Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy it is, and for all the reasons you posted. I can't take another turn either, so hopefully someone else will take up the slack.

I can be the slack taker-upper. I have one that I've been wanting to post for a while.

We are in an animated segment of a live action film.
It is reveled that we are brothers. However, no names are given.
Only one of us chose to reveal himself to death.

    Ok, here are three more.

In the beginning, we were able to outsmart death by making a bridge to cross a dangerous river.
Death wanted to outsmart us by giving each brother a reward for being able to evade him.
Only the humble brother was not outsmarted.
