    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Gosh, that's terrible, Salty. All at once, with no warning. When my mother passed away in 1991, it was a slow decline with lung cancer.

It's going to be a difficult time no matter what, but there will be plenty of nice folks that can give some help, us included. Just ask.

Oh dear, better make this real easy.

    7) Debuted on Friday 7 August 1981 in theaters. Not re-released until issues with recording labels were ironed out.

    8) Made in Canada, distributed by Columbia Pictures. Canada? No wonder we never heard of it. :p

    9) This animation is not radioactive, despite a name apropos of the Lanthanide / Actinide group.

Ah, I've got it now. It's Harry Canyon, the cabbie from "Heavy Metal." And contrary to your statement. I have heard of it. Just never saw it.

Yes, this is Harry Canyon the cabbie from one story arc of Heavy Metal, produced through the Canadian Film Development Corporation. I was being tongue-in-cheek about Canada, the land of snow, pine forests, peculiar lumberjacks and desperate moose. All the music track artists that furnished audio for the movie ... well, their labels kept the film bottled for years until almost none were left intact to dispute its release to tape and disc. I'll award Em another fine +1, and control of the board. :)

Thanks. OUB. Time for another truly untapped one:

    1. I'm part of a made for TV Disney clan that includes a character posted in the A to Z game, and twin siblings named after a pair of gospel singers.

    2. My own first name was "coined," you might say.

    3. My animated series was the first to have an episode devoted to Kwanzaa.

I'm running out of clues here, so here are the last three:

    4. My friends desert me when I need them the most.

    5. I'm 14 when my series begins, and 16 when it ends with a made for TV movie.

    6. In this movie, my family and I contend with evil clones of ourselves--created by putting our DNA into peanuts!

You're absolutely right, Pete. It is Penny Proud. Now to explain the clues:

    1. "The Proud Family" aired on the Disney Channel from 2001-2005.

    2. Her twin siblings, Bebe and Cece are named after Bebe and Cece Winans, well-known gospel singers.

    3. There was an episode called "Seven Days Of Kwanzaa--" the first episode of any animated series to focus on this.

    4. Her friends abandon her in times of trouble.

    5. Self-explanatory.

    6. "The Proud Family Movie" had them dealing with clones of themselves spawned from peanuts. Pretty weird, if you ask me.

So you're up again, Pete. Good job. :)

    I bring a festive offering:

    1) The snow on my fur gives my master an idea.
    2) My disguise has to be reduced.
    3) I get the first slice.

Didn't seem too easy to me. In fact, I'd call those clues ingenious. My thinking ran toward a dog that had to pose as a snowman or an angora cat so that he and his hobo master can mooch off some decent family at dinner. No, no, EmeraldIsle; PeterHale's clues are splendid, you just happen to be brilliant. :D

That's the trouble with clues - too easy if you get 'em, too difficult if you don't!

Yes, it's Max, as he appeared in the 1966 cartoon...

"All I need is a reindeer..." The Grinch looked around.
But, since reindeer are scarce, there was none to be found.
Did that stop the old Grinch? No! The Grinch simply said,
"If I can't find a reindeer, I'll make one instead!"
So he called his dog, Max. Then he took some red thread,
And he tied a big horn on the top of his head.
Then he loaded some bags And some old empty sacks,
On a ramshackle sleigh And he hitched up old Max.

That's all Dr Seuss has to say about him - but Chuck Jones seized upon Max and built up his part, to act as a counterpoint to the Grinch, and add humour to the tale.

    1) Having backed into a snowdrift, Max energes with a snowy Santa-hat and beard, giving the Grinch "A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!"
    2) The "big horn on the top of his head" proves too heavy, and has to be pruned.
    3) When the Grinch carves the "roast beast" at the end of the film, he gives the first slice to little Cindy-Lou, who sets the plate down in front of Max.

Well spotted, Emeraldisle - back to you!

Thanks, Pete. How about this one?

    1. I start out as a friend of the title character.

    2. Like everyone else, I'm impressed with his flying skills, but end up bullying him when I discover his secret.

    3. I'm named for an incendiary object.

Didn't think this one would be hard. Here are three more clues:

    4. My coach is mentioned by name in a classic poem, and is also named after a celestial object.

    5. Like most of the other characters, I was created for the animated special.

    6. Like the title character, I find myself attracted to females of my species.

Here is one that I thought I put up last year - but it's not on the list, so I must have had it ready and never got to use it!

    1) I hear that Santa needs me (though people try to tell me I've got it wrong).
    2) I am kidnapped by someone with a grudge against Christmas.
    3) Although I do not act like others of my species it is my species' ability that saves the day (twice).
