    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Thanks, Pete. Now here's one that's definitely gone untapped:

    1. I'm a single dad.

    2. My son is literally a little boy.

    3. When my tiny one goes out to find a bird, I step out into a raging blizzard out of concern for his safety.

This must be Tom Thumb's father from Tom Thumb in Trouble.

PS: This is the first time I saw/heard of Get A Job. Great short! Also, I contemplated looking through the Canadian shorts, but wasn't sure if that's where I should look. I really should listen to my instincts.

    Saltyboot, you got it right.

    1. He's a single dad, or perhaps even a widower, since the mother is neither seen nor mentioned.

    2. Self-explanatory.

    3. After a bird saves Tom from drowning, the father chases it off, thinking it tried to harm the boy. Tom went to look for it, leaving a note. Dear old dad went out in the blizzard to find him. Thankfully, the bird brought Tom home safe and sound.

That, BTW, is hands down my favorite one shot Looney Tune.

All yours again. Great job. :)

    Thanks-

My main focus is to become fully human.
    I stay away from chickens.
My minions are my eyes and ears to the outside.

    Three more.

I appear in a live action movie.
Early in the film I am live action, then later I am fully animated.
At the end, I get the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” treatment.

Still can't think of it. I did think of one, but unfortunately, he doesn't match the first three clues.

Okay, here are the last three clues.

My movie is based on a series of books.
It's also a sequel to a movie made decades earlier.
I dislike chickens because their eggs are poisonous to us.

Might this be the Nome King from Disney's live-action feature Return to Oz?

    Yes peterhale, that is correct!

He wants to become fully human (he is a rock gnome).
    Chickens are poisonous to gnomes.
His rock minions are his eyes and ears to the outside.
In the beginning, he was almost human. Then he reverted back to his original rock-self.
He accidentally swallows an egg and falls apart with the "Raiders" melting face look.
The movie is based on the OZ books.
This is the sequel to "The Wizard of OZ" movie.

    You're up! [toast]

Haven't seen it for a while, but I did like that movie.

Now here's a character we haven't had yet...

    1) I am obliged to sing an upbeat, optimistic song - which goes against the grain.
    2) I have trouble getting my news heard.
    3) I intercept an important message.

Once again, I'm clueless about this character. Maybe another lucky person will get it.

Oh, and let me add a tiny Congrats to PeterHale for tying the longest interval for an unguessed character. It takes some kind of cartoon research to stump the panelists here; bravo, sir. [toast]

Thanks, OUB! In the hope that I don't do it again, here are the second batch of clues...

    4) Like several characters from the feature, I was spun off into shorts.

    5) My voice artist has worked for Disney, Schlesinger, Fleischer, MGM, and Screen Gems.

    6) I may be small, but I'm hyperactive!

Those last three clues clinched it for me. It's Gabby, from "'Gulliver's Travels."

    Gabby it is!

    1) Gabby is Lilliput's night watchman, and sings the song "All's Well!" (..What's a rainy day? Never mind that cloud, Behind that cloud You'll find a golden ray!), then complaining "Why do they make me sing that song? The poet who wrote it was certainly wrong! 'It's bright ahead - go right ahead...' - I'd rather go home and go right to bed!"

    2) When Gabby discovers Gulliver asleep on the shore he rushes to the palace to tell King Little, but the King is in conference with King Bombo, discussing the wedding of their children, and so the guards keep ejecting him. When the guards eject king Bombo by mistake they confirm that monarch's decision to go to war. Gabby now has free access to King Little, but the ruler of Lilliput is now too preoccupied with the thought of war to listen to what Gabby is trying to tell him.

    3) When an exhausted Twinkletoes stops for a drink of water, Gabby grabs the message telling the spies that Bombo will attack at dawn.

    4) The spies, Sneak, Snoop and Snitch, appeared in 2 spin-off shorts, Twinkletoes in 3, but Gabby's series ran to a respectable 8!

    5) Pinto Colvig, of course!

    6) And annoying!

Well done, Em! You're up once more...

Thanks, Pete. Now here are some clues I just had to post today:

    1. I'm part of a Native American tribe.

    2. My father and I accompany a man who shares his name with a major M*A*S*H character in order to rescue two women and their dog when they're kidnapped by an enemy tribe.

    3. Sadly, my voice actor is one the world lost just yesterday.

Okay, it might not be in my head at this moment, but the clues you've given point me solidly in gold-vein directions. The dueling tribes + rescue the lass devices are drawn from Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans. The major M*A*S*H character has be Major Charles Emerson Winchester III, thereby making the animated character Winchester. The voice actor is the late, great Casey Kasem, legendary host of America's Top 40, among many other achievements. Gimme a few to do the research, and I'll specify this character, don't you worry. :)

Hmm, a little hard to tell from the trickle of info on the IMDb, but I'm thinking this could be Calgary Kasem from the WB series Histeria!

Well, I rather think it is Uncas, voiced by Kasem in the Hanna-Barbera version of The Last of the Mohicans. (And I was prompted to think of Fenimore Cooper's novel because of the primary M*A*S*H character 'Hawkeye' Pierce.)
