    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Pete, you got it right on all counts. Uncas it is. So you're up. And yes, those clues were an intentional tribute to Mr. Kasem. I thought it best to go with a slightly difficult character instead of Shaggy or Mark. Great job once again. :)

Here's someone we've overlooked 'til now...

    1) I try to uphold the law.
    2) Unfortunately, my friends are natural law-breakers.
    3) An 'animation legend' began as an inbetweener on my show.

Methinks this be Deputy Dawg, produced by Terrytoons Studio for CBS Television. American animator Ralph Bakshi cut his teeth on these cartoons. DD's friends, a muskrat and a gopher, tend to mischief and subversion rather than boring and law-abiding.

Oh, my, that was nice. :) Deputy Dawg has one of my favorite lines, too. When he hits his head on something, he holds his scalp and grouses, "Ooh, my head bone!" Which, while not anatomically correct, would explain quite a bit. :D

Ah, here's a goodly character, badly overlooked:

    1) This character first appeared in 1986, in an animated feature film. Though not the title character, he is the closest supporting character.

    2) A sequel feature film followed, then a regularly televised derivative cartoon series, then two direct-to-video features, all of which include this character. He's just that necessary.

    3) Most characters have names derived from their species: Felix the Cat is a cat, Deputy Dawg is a dog, Bugs Bunny is a bunny ... you get the idea. However, with this character, his name is a mismatch. And, yes, this character is not human. :p

I know the answer, but since Glowworm's here, I'll let her answer, since she's long overdue for a turn.

I actually wasn't entirely sure at first--but now I do indeed have it.

It must be Tiger, the friendly cat from An American Tail. I had to look up animated films from 1986 to fully get it. (I was born in 1988 actually)I did have a feeling it could be Tiger--however, I have actually never seen An American Tail--so I did not know he was actually in the first movie. I have however as a child seen the sequel "Fivel Goes West" and even the cartoon series (I very vaguely remember that show) but I never knew there was a fourth direct to video movie until now.

Live and learn. :) This character is entirely Tiger the cat, originally from An American Tail by Don Bluth / Gary Goldman / John Pomeroy. Later, Spielberg's Amblimation would take over the rights, and produce the sequel Fievel Goes West in 1991, followed by Fievel's American Tails in 1992. The two DTV's are The Treasure of Manhattan Island in 1998, and The Mystery of the Night Monster in 1999. In every case, the late Dom DeLuise provided Tiger's voice, establishing Tiger from get-go as an amiable but hopeless buffoon. It might be argued that Tiger is a tiger cat, but he's never shown with stripes; his breed is ... indeterminate, long-furred and corpulent.

Good detective work, Glowworm, that'll earn you a goodly +1, and control of the board to boot. :D

Thanks, Fievel goes West was actually the second movie in a theater I ever saw as a kid. (The first was Beauty and the Beast)
The only reason I was absent from the game for so long was due to vacation--and genuinely not knowing some of the previous characters lately up there.

    Anyhow, I got one.

    1. I am a wise--and rather eccentric character.
    2. I participate in showing off the newborn baby to everyone.
    3. Due to how dangerous it looks, my stunt with the baby has been parodied.

Ah, very simple indeed. It's Rafiki.

    1. He's a wise and rather eccentric baboon.

    2. He proudly shows off the newborn Simba, and later, Simba's daughter, by holding them up for all to see.

    3. There was a parody of the stunt in "Quest For Camelot," but I can't recall seeing it in other animated films.

Yes it's Rafiki from the Lion King.

The third clue--I'm actually alluding to an episode of Animaniacs called "The Tiger Prince" in which the opening number is parodied--albeit with Yakko in place of Rafiki--and yes, he drops the tiger cub. "I thought they were supposed to land on their feet." Somebody on youtube has also edited the opening scene to look as if Rafiki has dropped baby Simba to his death--and yes--there actually is an official Disney blooper in which Rafiki trips and drops Simba.
(it's the very last clip of course)

Thanks, Glowworm. Time for another good one:

    1. I'm an intelligent piece of high-tech equipment.

    2. I'm the true force behind the title character and her bandmates.

    3. My name is mentioned when it's showtime, and also when the show's over.

I'm going to guess that it's Synergy from Jem and the Holograms.

Yes, Saltyboot, you got it right! It most certainly is Synergy.

    1. She's a talking computer with a human face.

    2. She's the one who enables Jerrrica to become Jem, or anyone or anything else as the storyline dictates.

    3. When Jerrica needs to transform, she says, "Showtime, Synergy," and before she changes back, she says," Show's over, Synergy."

So now it's your turn again. Great, truly outrageous job. :)

    Thanks, now here's mine.

My series is based on a live action movie.
I kept an object that I should've thrown away.
The object brings out my alter-ego.

    OK, here's another one...

    1) The designer/creator of my series wanted me to be a monkey, but the producers preferred dogs.

    2) So I am a dog, and was designed by someone else.

    3) My name comes from my colour pattern.

Ah, simple again. It's Bandit, from "Jonny Quest."

    1. Doug Wildey wanted Jonny to have a pet monkey, but Hanna-Barbera figured a dog would be better. However, the pet monkey idea was later used for "Space Ghost," when Blip was the pet of choice.

    2. Self-explanatory.

    3. His name was inspired by the mask-like markings on his eyes.

I should have known better than to try and sneak an H-B character past you!

Yes, of course, Bandit is correct, on all counts.

I have to say that Bandit really annoyed me, being a cartoon dog in a realistically drawn and conceived series.

    All yours, Em!
