    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

    Yep, it's Jonathan.

He came up to the hotel where humans are not welcomed.
Dracula put him in a disguise so there won't be a panic.
    Jonathan falls for Dracula's daughter.
The Chef (Quasimodo) wanted to cook Jonathan when it was reveled that he is a human.

    All yours Glowworm

    Thanks--here's an easy one.

    1. We are one strange bird.
    2. Note--bird--not birds--we are not separate.
    3. We encounter a lost traveler.

Got it. It's Agatha and Emily from "Transylvania 6-5000." Most definitely.

    Yes. It's Agatha and Emily.
    1. Agatha and Emily are a blue two-headed vulture.
    2. One bird with two heads.
    3. They encounter Bugs--who once again is lost.

And now, the new clues, just as I promised:

    1. I live in a spooky mansion with three menacing servants and a pet bird who likes to go down to the cemetery to read tombstones.

    2. My will requires my nephew to spend a dark and stormy night on my estate in order to inherit a fortune.

    3. In the end, I reveal I faked my death just to test my heir.

Guess this one wasn't so easy, so here are the last three clues:

    4.. Unlike my nephew's Texas-based uncle, I'm a one-shot relative.

    5. I spend most of the episode's running time hidden inside a painting.

    6. My episode's plotline is loosely based on a late '50's horror classic.

Bonus clue: The episode I'm in first aired on October 29, 1964-just two days before Halloween.

Ok, it seems like I came up with a real stumper here. The answer is Uncle J. Giggles Flinstone, from the episode, "A Haunted House Is Not A Home." Now to explain the clues:

    1. He lived in a spooky mansion with Creepers the butler, Potrock, the cook, and Wormstone the gardener, each of whom wielded lethal tools or utensils. There was also the pet vulture, Horace, who liked to read tombstones.

    2. He made out a will, saying Fred had to spend the night there. And Fred and Barney did, but not without having run-ins with the servants.

    3. Giggles revealed he was alive, and was testing his nephew to see if he was worthy. This caused Fred to go ballistic, and chase after him and the servants with Potrock's cleaver.

    4. Unlike Uncle Tex, who was a recurring character, Giggles was never seen again after this episode. Maybe Fred got him?

    5. He was hidden inside a painting for much of the running time.

    6. The episode was inspired by the movie "The House On Haunted Hill," which had been released five years earlier.

    7. The original air date was October 29, 1964--perfectly timed for the Halloween season.

So I get another turn, and I'll make sure my next character is an easy one.

    And here's my next character:

    1. I'm the meanest black cat there ever was.

    2. In most of the shorts, I kidnap a female rodent.

    3. My adversary is another rodent. Here he comes to save the day!

Ah, this one I recognize: good ol' bad old Oil Can Harry, archnemesis of Mighty Mouse from Terrytoons Studio. That Flintstones episode is one I can't recall seeing; it sounds like one that I would have remembered.

Nice. :) Oh, and congrats on stumping us "experts," too. [toast]

Hmm, not really Hallowe'eny, but sort of in that direction. Here goes:

    1) This character has appeared only once to date in an animated feature film, though he's based on a public domain character.

    2) So powerful is this character that there wouldn't be much of a story with him around, so he goes away in the first act.

    3) This is one of those productions with "celebrity" voice casting, including this character. Not a bad fit in this case, though: a peculiar but conscientious liberal bemused by the world around him.

    Ooh, time for more clues.

    4) When this character decides to take a vacation, everything in the kingdom is A-okay, fine-n-dandy, tuned and balanced. He leaves things in the hands of two subordinates ... who, of course, screw things up royally.

    5) Of course, there's a dashing prince with a manly chin that tries to right the wrong. However, this pathetic prince is horribly outmatched. It falls to the damsel to do the heroic day-saving.

    6) You've heard the phrase "phone it in?" That actually happened with this character's voice actor, who was in Las Vegas at the time. Fortunately, this character departs early in the story, and returns just after everything's back in balance. Lotsa help he was.

This must be The Wizard from Happily N'ever after--and while I do enjoy fairy tale retellings--this was not one I had seen--looked like it was trying too hard to be Shrek.

Correct as usual, Glowworm: this is The Wizard from Happily N'Ever After, roughly based on Merlin from the Arthurian legend. Of course, being a wizard, he could simply *alakazoomph* everything back to normal, but where's the fun in that? So, he goes off to a wizard convention or lodge meeting or somesuch, leaving the comical pair Mambo and Munk in charge. Comedian George Carlin provides the wizard's voice, complete with his laissez-faire stoner approach to life. The prince was voiced by Patrick Warburton, who specializes in magnificent muscular morons. Trick was, Carlin had been booked in Vegas during the recording phase, so the studio Fedexed his script, and Carlin literally phoned in his lines.

This gives Glowworm another fine +1, and control of the board. :)

Here's one ripe for the upcoming holiday.
    1. On a dark and stormy night, I kidnap a dog.
    2. Like most scary characters, my residence is that of a spooky castle.
    3. I turn out to merely be a character in a nightmare.
